Thètes
The Thètes constitute least low social class with Athens. It is those which touch annually less than 200 médimnes. It acts, in fact, people (more than 50% of the Athenian citizens) generally without ground who rent their services. Thètes most generally live with Diocrie.
The designation of this class seems to date from the reform of Solon (towards - 594 before J. - C.).

During the democracy of fifth century BC, they never have access to the Magistrature and form the main part of the oarsmen of the Athenian trières.
