Texture (synthesized image)
In the field of the Synthesis of image, a texture is a whole of pixels 2D which one will apply to a surface or a volume 3D. While simplifying, one can compare it to a paper paints very plastic and deformable that one applies in 3D by specifying the geometrical transformation which each pixel of paper undergoes to apply to the element 3D. The pixel thus handled in 3D is called texel .
A texture can be defined in an analytical way by an algorithm (procedural texture) or be made up of a table of pixels (an image Bitmap for example) Textures are used to enrich returned the photorealist by volumes. It is often necessary for visual reasons to resort to algorithms of filtering (bilinear Filtrage for example), or to préfiltrées textures ( mipmap ) making it possible to smooth the image, in order to attenuate the artefacts related to the linear enlargement of the pixels.
