Test Off International English for Communication
History
The TOEIC was created by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) with the USA after a request of the Ministry for Industry and Foreign trade Japan board (MITI). The number of candidates is estimated at more: 4.5 million per annum.
Unfolding
The examination lasts two hours and is composed of two hundred questions with multiple choices and starts with hundred questions in comprehension Oral E then hundred in comprehension of Lecture.The support of examination consists of a booklet with the questions and a sheet of answers where one blackens with the pencil boxes to allow an autocorrection with an optical machine.
Evaluation of oral comprehension
All the sections are read only once.- the first section functions as follows: a photograph is posted and four legends are read. It is thus necessary to find that which corresponds.
- the second section includes/understands a series of very short sound dialogs (in general only one sentence) to which it is necessary to find the answer most adequate among the three solutions suggested.
- the third section is a mini dialog, generally between two people, from which it will be necessary to deduce an assertion among the four proposed.
- the fourth section relates to dialogs a little longer: it is necessary to answer several written questions bearing about these dialogs (between 2 and 4 questions).
Evaluation of written comprehension
- the first section includes/understands sentences to which it misses a word or group words: it is necessary to choose the good complement among several possibilities. Grammar as well as the vocabulary can be evaluated.
- the second section includes/understands erroneous sentences: among several underlined word groups, it is necessary to give that which must be modified to make the sentence correct.
- the third section includes/understands articles from where it is necessary to draw from information to answer the put questions (between two and four questions per article).
New module: the TOEIC Speaking & Writing
Test TOEIC Speaking & Writing evaluates the oral and written expression. It allows an exact evaluation of competences of the candidates in written and oral expression. Managed by computer, test TOEIC Speaking & Writing are composed in two parts:- The oral expression: this test lasts approximately 20 minutes. It measures a range of competences of oral expression, among which the pronunciation, intonation and the stressing, as well as the vocabulary, grammar, the ease of elocution and prolonged behavior of a speech.
- The written expression: this part lasts approximately an hour and is composed of 6 types of exercises (of which an essay) and of 11 questions. The exercises evaluate ranges of different competences and at various levels.
The answers of the candidates are distributed randomly and in an anonymous way between the qualified appraisers.
Several appraisers note various parts of each test by the means of the Network of Notation on Line of ETS (OSN: Online Scoring Network) for a maximum objectivity and a reliability.

Notation
Each part (written comprehension and oral comprehension) is noted on a scale going from 5 to 495 points. The total note thus spreads out from 10 to 990 points, which always determines the color of the certificate:- : 10-215
