Terrance (Terry) Funk (born the June 30th 1944) is a Catch American or , known for the style of the Catch hardcore which it tardily adopted in his career and which inspired later good number of all-in wrestlers, in particular Mick Foley. It is known affectieusement like " The Funker ". It is also an all-in wrestler who has a great influence.

Career

1960s-1970s

Funk launched its career in 1965, working in the federation of his/her father Dory Funk, Sr. 'S with Amarillo with the Texas. He and his/her brother Dory Funk, Jr. quickly climbed the rows to become good all-in wrestlers at the end of the decade. In its tenth year as a pro, Terry beat Jack Brisco for NWA World Heavyweight Championship, then the most important championship, thus beginning a fourteen months reign which ended with Toronto where it was beaten by " Handsome" Harley Race which gained the title for the second time. Terry Funk withdrew some time after its reign but him and his/her brother travelled through the country (especially in Texas, in Florida, and with Detroit) seeking combat. Terry and Dory, Jr. were made also names with the Japan where they became certainly the most popular foreigners of the history of Japan. (Funks were the first Gaijin with being regarded as face S in Japan.) Funk was also implied in the very first barbed match. He faced Dusty Rhodos, in this match at the end of the years 1970 before the extreme and the hardcore were made names. Pro Wrestling Illustrated qualified this history of " The horrifying barbed-wire fence match."

1980s

Terry made its beginning with the WWF in 1985 in one year memorable. At the time of its beginnings televised to Championship Wrestling it beat not only Aldo Marino, but it tabassait also a spectatator named Mel Philips which was also at that time, one of the advertisers of the WWF. Funk had also the gimmick somebody who brought back with him of the iron that it left at the edge of the boxing ring to use it then and " marquer" the adversary KB with.

In the middle of the years 1980, Funk made team with Dory (being called itself " Hoss" Funk) and Jimmy Jack Funk (Jesse Barr), a Storyline of " frère." They were managed by Jimmy Hart. During this front time it has a heinous competition with Junkyard Dog.

In 1989, Funk joined the J-Tex Corporation. It started to compete with Ric Flair after Flair beat Ricky Steamboat with Wrestle War for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Funk, which was one of the three judges for the Hand-vent, defied Flair with a match for the title. Sense of smell refused, saying that Funk " its time passed to Hollywood" instead of focusing itself on its career in wrestling. Funk then attacked, carrying a Piledriver in Flair on a table at the edge of the boxing ring. In this feud, Funk will have used a plastic bag of supermarket to choke Flair, and this on television. As this is clearly dangerous towards no matter whom and to prevent that the children make in the same way, that shown again forever. The incident is available all the same in no-claims bonus in the DVD " The Ultimate Ric Collection" Sense of smell;.

1990s

Later in the career of Funk, its style of wrestling changed that very traditional and " sudiste" with a more brutal style based on the Wrestling hardcore. Result, Funk began with empocher a new base of fans who liked his style hardcore.

In 1994, Funk helped the Eastern Championship Wrestling (later famous Extreme Championship Wrestling) by bringing its talent and its notoriety to the federation, which had just separated from the National Wrestling Alliance. The July 14th 1994, Terry and Dory Funk lost a barbed match against The Public Enemy. Terry had its face grates in the barbed wire. Funk maintained a calendar regular for the ECW while going to Japan. It had many feuds and faced all-in wrestlers like Cactus Jack, " The Franchise" Douglas Shane, The Sandman, Sabu, and its protected, Tommy Dreamer.

August 20th, 1995, the International Wrestling Association organized off a tournament King The Death Match (Kawasaki Dream) in Kawasaki in Japan. In this tournament, Funk made a marathon with 3 different matches with extreme style including/understanding scales, bugs and barbed wire. In the last match of the tournament, it lost against Mick Foley (as Cactus Jack), in a boxing ring explosable and surrounded by barbed wire.

Terry Funk helped with the setting in front of the ECW while being with the poster of their very first Pay-Per-View, Barely Legal , the April 13rd 1997, gaining ECW World Heavyweight Championship of Raven. It was beaten later for the title by Sabu in a Barbed wire match with ECW Born To Be Wired , in which the cords of the boxing ring were to remove and replace by barbed wire. The two men underwent cuts. In September of this same year, a show étaoit organized in Amarillo in the town of Funk. It was called " 50 Years off Funk" and was a celebration of the careers of Terry, his/her father and his brother. Terry lost against then the WWF World Heavyweight Champion Bret Hart in the hand-vent. However, before the match, the owner of the ECW Paul Heyman presented Terry with a belt, given by the all-in wrestlers of the ECW, which declared it Champion ECW with life.

The retirement of Terry Funk lasted only three months before it makes its return on the independent Circuit. Little time after its return, it was signed by the WWF and began like Chainsaw Charlie . As Chainsaw Charlie, Funk gained the World Tag TEAM Championship with Mick Foley with WrestleMania XIV, when they beat the New Age Outlaws in Dumpster Match. The decision was however reversed the following night with RAW because of this technical fact: the bad contenaire was used during the match.

It left the WWF this summer when the career in solo of Mick Foley as Mankind started to take off thanks to its feud with The Undertaker. At the time of its departure of the WWF, Funk was withdrawn officially once more, but only for one short time.
