The territory of New Guinea-News-Guinea was a territory under Australian administration which included/understood half is island of New Guinea and which corresponds to current the New Guinea-News-Guinea.

Before the Second world war, the zone was divided into two territories under administration of Australia: the Territory of New Guinea in North and the Territory of New Guinea in the South. After the war, the administraton of the two territories was combined in 1945.

In 1949, the area was placed under a mode of international supervision and the ratified union of the two territories. A legislative council was set up (and establishes in 1951), as well as a legal system and of local government. An assembly replaced the council in 1963 (the first session began on June 8th, 1964). In 1972, the name of the territory was changed into New Guinea-News-Guinea. It obtained an autonomy supplements on December 1st, 1973 and its independence on September 16th, 1975.
