Terrane

In Geology, a Terrane is a Accrétion of Roche S, on a continental platform or a Craton of different origin. They are in general materials brought by Subduction.

These materials come is:

  • Of insular arcs that the Tectonique moved (ex: arc Taconique).
  • Of fragments detached from a continent by divergence (Rift opening an ocean) (ex: Armorica, Avalonia).

Hawaii could for example be identified like a terrane in several tens of million years, so of adventure it enters in collision with a continent, just as the Californian coast which is detached little by little from the North America.
