Terra incognita
A will terra incognita (Latin meaning “unknown ground”) is a Territoire which was not not explored yet by the Homme.
One found in the beginning this inscription on the geographical maps, in particular the maps of the world, to indicate the grounds located beyond the known zones. Thus, the interior Africa (basin of the Congo in particular) was regarded very a long time as will terra incognita , just as the spaces located at the south of the New Zealand ( will terra australis incognita , southern land unknown). As of 1830, explorations multiplied and the colonial expansion supported the discovery of the last unknown territories of the Man. Thus, of the explorers whose in particular David Livingstone, discovered central and Eastern Africa and the basin of the Congo. With the development of the companies of geography, at the 19th century, the mention of will terra incognita disappeared little by little from the charts.
Nowadays, there really any more does not exist of territories which were not explored by the man. Consequently the term is used in more illustrated way. Thus, a matter can be will terra incognita for a person if it exceeds the field of her knowledge.
