Ternois

The Ternois is an area of the Pas-de-Calais.

The name is found in the name of the Ternoise (river) and of some communes: Conteville-in-Ternois, Cross-in-Ternois, Gouy-in-Ternois, Mount-in-Ternois, Egg-in-Ternois. The adjective corresponding is ternésien (ternésienne) .

History

Ternois was a subdivision ( Pagus ) of the Comté of Flanders, with the counties of Bruges, Waes, Ghent, Mempisc (Bergues), the Boulonnais and the Artois.
