Ternin
The Ternin is a small abundant affluent of Right Bank of the Arroux, therefore a tributary of a tributary of the the Loire.
Hydrography
It is born in the Morvan and its basin as its course extends in the departments from Coast-in Or and Saône-et-Loire. It generally runs in direction of south-east, and receives water of multiple extremely abundant brooks, before arriving in plain. It is thrown in Arroux in the town of Autun.
Hydrology
The flow of Ternin was observed during one 41 years period (1967-2007), with Tavernay, locality of Saône-et-Loire located at the North-West of the town of Autun (ref.: ). At this place the catchment area of the river is of 257 km ².
The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Tavernay is of 3,7 m ³ a second.
Ternin present of the seasonal fluctuations of flow rather important in connection with precipitations falling on the Morvan, with high waters of winter carrying the average monthly flow on the level from 5,5 to 7,5 m ³ a second, from December to March included (with an in January maximum - February), and low waters of summer from July to October, with a fall of the monthly medium flow up to 0,536 m ³ in August.
The VCN3 can fall until 0,083 m ³, in the event of dry period quinquennial, that is to say 83 liters a second, which is extremely low (see note).
The risings are often very important and contribute to the rise of water of Arroux. Indeed, the recorded maximum instantaneous flow was of 81,7 m ³ a second on January 13rd, 2004, while the value maximum day laborer was of 62,9 m ³ a second on February 15th, 1990. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 64 m ³ a second, the QIX 20 of 73 m ³ and the QIX 50 of 84 m ³. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 are worth as for them respectively 40 and 54 m ³ (see note).
Ternin is a small but abundant river, well supplied with precipitations of Morvan. The Lame of water past in its catchment area is of 456 millimetres annually, which is raised, quite higher than that of the basin of Arroux, like with the overall average of France. The specific Débit (or Qsp) is assembled at 14,4 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
