Termez
Termez ( Uzbek Termiz in , Arab Tirmidh in ) is a historical city in the South-east of the Ouzbékistan, capital of the area of Sourkhandaria (Surxondaryo Viloyati), 140 000 inhabitants (2005), the southernmost city of the country. Termez is old of more than 2 500 years; it is one of the oldest cities of the world.
During the Guerre of Afghanistan (1979-1989) the city was an important base of the Soviet Armée: more 100 000 soldiers stationed there. The Bridge known as " amitié" on Amou-Daria, the point of principal passage between the two countries, was used like an artery of supply of the Soviet Army during the countryside.
