Boult-sur-Suippe is a common French, located in the department of the Marne and the area Champagne-Ardenne.

History

The first traces of occupation discovered on the territory of Boult-sur-Suippe goes back with the Neolithic era, towards 5000 to 4500 years front J.C. Being on the Roman way from Rheims in Cologne, this site is very important at the time Gallo-Roman as reveals it the discovery of a mausoleum decorated with fresco representing the death of Adonis. The first etymological trace of this village goes back to 1213: Bou, then Bodillum in 1226; Boul, 1384; Boult, 1394. This name would be derived from Bodium, diminutive which indicates a dwelling, a manse. With the Middle Ages, Boult counts two variations: Bricogne, strong house built during the time mérovingienne and destroyed with the One hundred Year old War and the hamlet of Tool bags, city in XIIIe century on the site of the passage of the Roman way from Rheims to Cologne.

The wars devastate the valley of Suippe: wars of religion (1560-1598), the Sling (1648-1658) and the War of succession of Spain (1701-1713). Paradoxically in fact the natural elements will cause the most destruction at the village. The flood in 1784 reached its apogee on February 22nd with 19:00. The valley of Suippe is nothing any more but one vast sea. The villagers are constrained to move their higher village and the church is in fact offset. The day before the French revolution, the successive overflows of Suippe ruined the villagers.

The two world wars tested the population, the infrastructures (ports and factories) and the soil (fields upset by the shells, the trenches, networks the barbed ones…). September 11th, 1914, the Germans make their entry with Boult and the emperor of Germany Guillaume II will come to return visit to his troops. It is only tardily, on November 1st, 1918 that the village is entirely evacuated. The return of the inhabitants will be gradually made in December 1918 and during the year 1919. They are on their premises, but repairing work is considerable.

The Second world war brings also its batch of destruction. Required passage, the bridges are destroyed by the French Army as well as the surrounding houses. The St-Denis castle - Polliard is destroyed by the explosion of the French ammunition dump. The Germans occupy Boult on June 10th, 1940 around 5 p.m. Other soldiers will be accommodated well better. August 30th, 1940 at 11 a.m., 90e DI of the Patton General releases the village.
