TerGV
In France, TERGV is a means of regional railway transport to high speed.
Principle
The name even of the concept is explicit: " TERGV" is formed by the contraction of " FOR THE THIRD TIME " and " TGV ". TERGV are thus regional trains, either autonomous, or ensured by traditional TGV, and which roll on LGV. However, this concept, a priori promising when they are average distances (100-200 km), has a problem however: its price. It is indeed more expensive to make roll of the trains on LGV than on traditional line. Moreover, it is necessary that the line is used relatively little, in order to avoid problems of saturation ( TERGV are often slower than TGV).
Concrete applications
In Nord-Pas-de-Calais
For several years, the district council of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, within the framework of his policy on the FOR THE THIRD TIME, has set up of the TERGV on two relations:
- Lille-Europe - Dunkirk (30 min)
- Lille-Europe - Calais-Fréthun (40 min) - Boulogne-City (55 min)
For these two relations, the traveller must provide himself with a tariff supplement, the " Not Coast of Opale".
Since 2003, another relation, Lille-Europe - Arras, was installation on an experimental basis and at a rate of a return ticket per day. This relation does not require a tariff supplement. As from 2007, this relation will be packed, because it represents a real success
Elsewhere
Elsewhere, one is always with the projects. To speak only about the projects using the already existing lines, one could evoke the project of TERGV Paris - Massy-TGV - Vendôme-TGV - Saint-Pierre-of-Body - Tours, that of Dijon - Montbard - Laroche-Migennes or that of Lyon - Valence - Montélimar - Avignon.
