Karl-Wilhelm Naundorff , dead the August 10th 1845 with Delft (where its tomb is), was a Prussian clock and watch maker . He was most famous and most disconcerting of the alleged dolphins.
Naundorff made its appearance in France in 1833 and declared being Louis XVII, wire of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, therefore claiming with, the survivor crown of France of the prison of the temple in 1795.
Thanks to accounts of its alleged existence in Versailles and the Prison of the Temple, it succeeds in convincing and rejoining with its cause of many people, including aristocrats, formerly familiar of the royal family.
Its claims were the subject of many historical and scientific controversies. In 1943 historian André Castelot celebrates it, made make analyzes of the hair of Naundorff compared with a wick of hair of the dolphin by professor Locard of the laboratory of technical police force of Lyon. Locard concludes that both mêches had the same offsetting of the medullary canal. This argument was considered by the historian as a proof that Naundorff was well the dolphin. But in 1951 one second expertise of Locard made starting from other hair made it reconsider its first results and led Castelot to revise its conclusions.
June 2nd, 1998 of analysis DNA carried out jointly by Professor Jean-Jacques Cassiman of the Belgian university of Leuwen and Doctor Pascal of the C.H.U of Nantes, from some of its hair and from the fragments of humerus confronted with hair of the Marie-Josephe archduchess and Jeanne-Gabrièle, sisters of Marie-Antoinette, concluded that the remainders of Naundorff were not those of the dolphin Louis XVII.
Other taking away were carried out, in 2004, directly on the skeleton of Naundorff, exhume its tomb of Delft. Since then, of the analyzes would have been realized on these taking away by the laboratory of Dutch genetics of professor De Knieff. However, the Bourbon-Naundorff family did not believe to have, at present (June 2007) to publish the results of them…
In 1999 the heart taken in 1795 by the doctor Philippe-Jean Pelletan, after the autopsy of Louis XVII, and preserved in the royal crypt of the basilica of Saint-Denis is subjected to analyzes DNA diligentées by Professors Cassiman, of Leuwen, and Brinkmann of the university of Münster in Germany, on the initiative of the historian Philippe Delorme. April 3rd, 2000 the comparisons of DNA mitochondrial of the heart and the hair of Marie-Antoinette and her two sisters, concluded with the relationship from the relic.
Analysis DNA of the heart of the dead child to the Temple, is disputed by the survivantists because they claim that it could have belonged to the older brother of Louis XVII, Louis-Joseph, the first dolphin died in 1789, however the heart of Louis-Joseph was embaumé according to the royal tradition, as the files attest it, while that of Louis XVII was preserved in alcohol, which returns from the start any confusion impossible.
The descendants of Naundorff preserve still today a certain number of partisans, called the naundorffists, " under-groupe" survivantists. They carry the patronym " besides; of Bourbon" , the use their was granted by the Netherlands (and who was implicitly recognized besides by the English civil statue - little looking at the time on the matter -, at the time of the birth of a son of Naundorff, occurred in this country).
In its book " Around Mrs Vigée it Brun" , Hubert Royet considers that Naundorff around 15 years was a servant of Elisabeth Vigée Brown the arrived at Vienna in 1793. Until 1789, Elisabeth Vigée Brown the was the painter of Marie Antoinette and thus with its service, Naundorff would have thus learned much from thing on the royal family.
