Biography

Teodorico Pedrini was allowed in the Congrégation of the Mission (Lazaristes) in 1698. It was sent of Rome in China by the pope in 1702 to like the emperor, who had wished to have some European artists for his court. It was to belong to the voyage of Mgr of Tournon, papal legate, who left to inspect the Jésuites in China.

Unfortunately delayed, Pedrini could not join the the Canaries in time, and the boat left without him. When it could embark, the winds Alizé S actuated the ship towards the South America, in the direction opposed to the usually followed road. After crosshaving crossed the Cape Horn with difficulty, it touched ground with Concepción with the Chile, then with Lima with the Peru. The missionary went then by sea to the Guatemala, then by ground with Acapulco with the Mexico. He managed to embark for the Filipino where it arrived in 1707. Mgr of Tournon was prisoner with Macao. Pedrini chartered a vessel on its own funds, was disguised as a captain to thwart the geôliers. Arrived at Macao, after three months of perilous navigation, he managed to give to Mgr of expiring Tournon, the bar of cardinal. He went finally to Beijing, where it arrived ten years after its departure, the February 5th 1711.

He was accepted the very same day by the emperor Kangxi, who consequently took it under his protection, in spite of the hostility of certain courtiers. It remained until its death in 1746 with the service of Wire of the sky: Kangxi, then Yongzheng and finally Qianlong. It was in charge of the maintenance of the Clavecin S of the court, built instruments, including one new Orgue for the church of the Jesuits of the EIB Tang, and another for the emperor. It completed the treaty of European music ordered by the emperor with the Jesuit Tomas Pereira (death in 1708), accompanied the emperor in his voyages, taught the music with its sons, etc…
