Tennis for Two is a Video game of tennis developed in 1958 on a computer connected to a Oscilloscope.
Tennis for Two is regarded as one of the first video games of the history. It is in particular the precursor of Pong , the first popular video game. Although the two plays are plays of tennis, Tennis for Two concentrates on the management of the ball, whereas the player controls the racket in Pong .
The play was not especially noticed during its creation. It is only in March 1981 which an article of the Brookhaven Bulletin considers that Tennis for Two is the first video game created, idea included thereafter in different specialized magazines.
But Tennis for Two is not always recognized like the first video game. There exists initially another play, OXO , created on computer EDSAC in 1952, that is to say six years before Tennis for Two . Then, Ralph Baer, the creator of the first family console of video game in 1971, considers that Tennis for Two is not a video game, because not created to be played on a traditional screen, and cannot be regarded consequently as the first video game.
