Tennessee
The Tennessee is a State of the Southern the United States. It is surrounded in North by the Kentucky and the Virginia, in the East by the North Carolina and in the South by the Georgia, the Alabama and the the Mississippi, and in the West by the Arkansas and the Missouri.
History
The area now occupied by Tennessee was populated by various Amerindian tribes , in particular the Chickasaws, the Creek S and the Cherokee S. the territory was explored in the middle of the 16th century by the Spaniards, from of which Hernando de Soto in 1540, then, at the end of the 17th century, by French descending the the Mississippi (Louis Jolliet and Jacques Marquette, in 1673).
Following the treated of Paris of 1763, the area passed under English domination and, towards the end of the year 1760, of many English colonists coming from Virginia and from North Carolina the mountains crossed to be established in the valleys of Holston, the Watauga and Nolichucky. Daniel Boone was one of the first to traverse the area. The first permanent colony was created in 1769 in Watauga, then in 1772 an independent district, the Watauga Association, annexed by North Carolina in 1776. The first city of the State, Jonesboro, was founded in 1779 by of Caroliniens of North. The maximum altitude of the State is of 2025 m with the top of Clingmans Dome, which is located on the border is of Tennessee. Its geographical center is located at a few kilometers in the east of Murfreesboro and its point low is located at 54m with the top of the sea level.

Transport
The Interstate 40 crosses almost the totality of the territory on a East-West axis. It joined the highways I-240 in Memphis, I-440 and I-840 in Nashville, and I-140 and I-640 in Knoxville. The other East-West important highways are the I-26 and the I-24. The North-South highways are the I-55, I-65, I-75 and I-81.
The principal airports are the International airport of Nashville (BNA), the International airport of Memphis (MEM), McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) in Knoxville, Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA), and Tri-Cities Regional Airport (TRI).
Demography
According to the Bureau of the census of the United States, in 2005, Tennessee has a population estimated at 5.962.959 inhabitants, which represents an increase of 1,2%, that is to say 69.661 people, compared to the previous year; and of 4,8%, that is to say 273.697 people, compared to 2000. That includes a natural increase in 117.203 people since the last census (414 305 births minus 297.102 deaths) and an arrival of 159.680 people in the State, including 49.973 people coming from another country that the the United States of America, and 109.707 étasuniens.

6,6% of the population had less than 5 years, 24,6% less than 18 years and 12,4% 65 years or more.

Presidential elections

Economy
This State knew its economic apogee between 1975 and 1982. Tennessee famous thanks to Nashville, was regarded at the time as the capital of the rock'n'roll.
