Tendon

The tendons are cords fixed on the parts of the Squelette offering a catch to the Muscle S. Of white color, and of rather broad and thick aspect, they have a strong resistance due to their structure in beams of Fiber S of collagens. They belong to the fabrics conjontifs with a fiber network much more organized than the majority of conjunctive fabrics.
Role
They have as a function to intermittently stabilize osseous articulations (while the ligaments offer a permanent stability) with the assistance of the muscle on which it is dependant. Although a tendon is not very vascularized, one finds there innumerable Nerf S providing accurate information on the load tractor drawn as on the position of the member to which it is attached.
Physiopathology
The tendons are more resistant than the ligaments but the repetition of activities as in the sportsmen of high levels because of their drive an embrittlement of the tendon involves which can then tear or to entirely break. These lesions of the tendon are called tendinopathies.
In physiopathology of the tendons, one realizes that there exist factors supporting the tendinopathies, these factors can be intrinsic with the individual or extrinsic with him. In the intrinsic factors we have:
- the age: the older one is and the more prone one is to the affections of the tendons
- the morphology of the articulations: in the anatomy of the individual, i.e. a person who has such shape of articulation (varus, valgus, etc) has more risks to have a lesion tendineuses than another
- the metabolism of the individual: in the event of dehydration for example
But all these intrinsic factors are of relative importance, because occurred of a tendinopathy depends on the use of the tendon in question, if one does not make absolutely a sport, one is protected enough on this side… The extrinsic factors which support a tendinopathy are the bad gestures which are repeated during the drive for example, the lack of heating, a bad chaussage, but also the hormonal or medicamentous factors.
