The Tendency independence and democracy (TID) is a tendency of UNEF-ID, it appeared little before the congress of Clermont-Ferrand of 1993. It was born from the fusion of several tendencies with an aim of reversing the direction of the student trade union.

Genesis of the TID

In January 1993, the majority places from there divides. The left wing taken along by Emmanuelle Paradise and David Rousset creates the Tendance independence and action. During months which follow, this one manages to federate around it the principal tendencies of opposition: the Tendency start or the decline (TSOD), famous near to S.O.S Racism, the Tendency for a trade-union left (PGS), famous near to LCR and heirs to CERES taken along by militants chevenementists. It amalgamate then in the same tendency to which they give the reference symbol of Tendency independence and democracy, denomination which makes echo in the name of the trade union, the UNEF independent and democratic. In addition to the symbol, this name also recalled two of the principal objections addressed in the majority, the authoritarianism of its president and the too great dependence with the Socialist party. The partisans of the opposition showed also the majority to threaten the trade-union identity of the organization by a too sensitive to the cold orientation and by integrating UNEF-ID into a confederation of provided education for youth. This one was to join together all kinds of associations coeds among which UNEF-ID.

Congress of Clermont-Ferrand

A congress with UNEF starts with a series of local congresses. The latter are the occasion to organize the vote of the members on the texts of orientation proposed by the tendencies and to renew the local executive team. The stake that they represent is thus large and, it is multiplied by ten in this year 1993. Some OLD (local structure of UNEF) are quasi monolithic, there is thus little room for maneuver for the other tendencies. But several are hesitant, and not the least. For those, each voice is bitterly disputed. The militants are under pressure and any incident takes a disproportionate proportion. Thus with Paris I, a simple electric cut in the lecture theater or it is joined together the local congress involves rumors of plot on both sides. But it is not all, the various parts show electoral fraud mutually. It is under these conditions of exacerbated tensions that this joins together with Clermont-Ferrand the 73 {{E}} congress of the UNEF-ID. It opens time to listen to the guests (mayor of the city…) then one announces an adjournment. It will last two days. Indeed, the results are so tight that one pains to find a compromise between the involved forces. Rumors of secessions circulate. But in the content, nobody wants to really divide a little more the student trade unionism. Moreover, the influential MNEF and several former militants intervene for preserving the unit. One will thus not divide. Admittedly, but then it is necessary to find the subtle balance which will satisfy everyone, and it is with Philippe Campinchi and its close relations that returns this difficult exercise. They should at the same time recognize the importance of the opposition which pursues them and to reward their allies without which they would have been beaten. These is finally the latter, resulting from the Tendance future which will make the expenses of the agreement. The TID obtains 15 stations at the National office, against 17 for the majority, and the parity at the Audit Board (charged commission to make respect the payment and to supervise the votes). Moreover, they preserve the stations which they occupy already, in particular the treasury, for David Rousset, and their influence on the National office of the Houses of student (ONME). They exchange all the same the general secretary against the vice-presidency, reserved for Emmanuelle Paradis. Not to weaken an agreement so difficult to obtain, but also, because the Audit Board cannot study the many charges of fraud, the result of the votes of the members never will be deducted and thus published (a rumor makes state 53% of the voices for the majority). Other made surprising of this congress, there is almost no vote, even not on the composition of the leading authorities. It should be said that the variation, of number, between delegated majority and those of the opposition and so weak, that the climate if is tended, that each vote is likely to call into question the balance of the forces. Finally, if this strange congress saved the unit of UNEF-ID, it did not allow by the opposition and the majority this to decide between. The months which will follow thus will be, them also, of the months of internal struggle and this, until the next congress.

The creation of the Tendency trade-union future and the swing of the majority

As of the end of the congress of Clermont-Ferrand, the bitter rocardiens announce their intention to create a new tendency whose name sounds like disavowals of the majority, Tendance to rebuild. They are immediately imitated by the fabiusiens which crééent DEMONSTRATIONS: (Coed Definition of a Majority of Trade-union Orientation). Consequently, the position of Philippe Campinchi weakens and the opposition takes again hope. During the year 1994 the idea of a compromise of ideas between the TID and Reconstruire makes its way. Philippe Campinchi and its close relations cannot whereas to note the extent of the crisis and to convene a new congress for December. Disappointed certain frameworks campinchists then decide to leave the trade unionism and to join the associative medium in particular Animafac. TID which records the adhesion of DEMONSTRATIONS then becomes the Tendance trade-union future (HEAP).

This congress known as of Paris, is held in this city in December 1994. This time, the Audit Board publishes the results normally. The text of orientation of the HEAP, is majority with 51% of the mandates. The old majority obtains only 33% from them. The Tendency to rebuild, even if it is private of its role of pivot by the good score of the HEAP, confirms are establishment and takes down 15% of the mandates. Alliance between HEAP and Reconstruire is confirmed even if it is still fragile. Pouria Amirshahi is elected president of UNEF-ID. A new generation takes in hand the future of the trade union with like mission of pacifying the relations between tendencies, of joining again confidence with the students (in particular electorally speaking) and of proposing an at the same time defensive and constructive trade-union orientation.

The HEAP after 1994

The improvement of the electoral results of UNEF-ID like several social and teaching reforms of the ministry Bayrou will be interpreted by the partisans of the new majority like the proof of the relevance of their step.

The HEAP forms the base on which is always built the Tendance national majority in 2007 with all the same some evolutions in alliances. Initially alliance with Tendency to rebuild was reinforced. It integrated the national Majority under the name of Sensibilité together for the equality (SEPE). The bonds with the parties distended with beginning of the year 2000 before being tightened. Today, it is the sensitivity Syndicalisme for the Equality.
The sensitivity DEMONSTRATIONS remained in the majority without stopping even if this current proves faible.
particularly CERES after having sought with autonomiser in the national majority, ended up disappearing from the landscape of UNEF-ID.
Alliance with the trotskists of PGS did not hold very a long time. As of the beginning, certain militants made known their reserves to join the TID. A sensitivity Fights coeds! Union action! (LEAS) was born all the same. But in February 1996, LEAS leaves the east majority founds with others the Tendance unit and democracy.
The case of the heirs to TSOD is more complex. They are based indeed quickly in the " majo majo" (majority sensitivity of the majority tendency), so much so that at the end of the years 1990 plus nothing does not distinguish them a priori from the militant resulting from the Tendance independence and action. The things become complicated after the bursting of the Gauche Socialist. A conflict bursts then with UNEF between the direction of the trade union and the drayists. The latter taken along by Carine Seiler are marginalized. Put in a difficult position, they end up creating a new organization the Fédération of the children of the Republic.
As for the " majo majo" current is thus the remote heiress of the Tendance independence and action. This filiation is found in particular in the methods: most of the activity supports on some " claims unifiantes" whose promotion is ensured by centralized national campaigns. Moreover, their attachment with the independence of the trade unionism (in spite of an ideological bond with the current Socialist alternative), with the trade-union unit and the mutualism students brings them closer to the red Text.
