The temple of the large jaguar (Temple I) is a pyramid which was built towards 700 under the orders of the Maya sovereign Jasaw Chan K' awiil (682 - 734). It is located at the center of old the city-state of Tikal, in the area of the Petén, with the Guatemala. With 45 meters height, it is one of most imposing Maya world. The pyramid supports, at its top, a temple dedicated to the worship of the Jaguar. The archeologists discovered, at the time of the excavations, a funerary room with six meters under ground, dedicated to the sovereign, of many jade offerings as well as carved shells and bones.

The made temple, with its 15 meters, exactly one the third height of the building. The angles of the building vary between 60 and 80 degrees and tend all to respect the criteria of beauty of Maya architecture. The pyramid comprises 9 stages, quantifies crowned Maya.
