Temple of Putuo Zongcheng
The Temple of Putuo Zongcheng (普陀宗乘之庙, Pinyin: Pǔtuó Zōngchéng ) of Chengde, province of the Hebei, China is a temple Bouddhiste of the Dynastie Qing, built between 1767 and 1771, under the reign of the Emperor Qianlong (1735 - 1796). It is close to the Résidence of mountain of Chengde, which extends to the south. With also celebrates Temple of Puning, it is one of the Eight Temples External of Chengde. It was built on the model of the Palais of Potala, the old sanctuary of the Dalai Lama builds one century earlier, with the Tibet. Also, the Temple of Putuo Zongcheng was called “Small Potala”. It presents an architecture mixing Chinese styles and Tibetan. The temple extends on a surface from: 220000 square meter, which does of it one of largest of China. Several of its rooms and houses are covered with copper or gold tiles, which adds to the splendor of the unit.
History
The temple of Putuo Zongcheng in the beginning was devoted to Qianlong, at the time of its birthday. It also provides to China of Qing a as large and sumptuous temple as the Palais of Potala, with the Tibet. Apart from its religious and festive functions, the Temple of Putuo Zongcheng was also the place where the emperor received the delegations of the various ethnos groups of the empire. It provided a peaceful retirement, compared to the animation of the capital Beijing, and was surrounded by huntings intended for the emperor and his hosts.Since 1994, the Residence of mountain of Chengde and the Eight Temples External (of which the temple of Putuo Zongcheng) are reproduced on the Liste of the world heritage of UNESCO. The Temple of Putuo Zongcheng is a tourist place and the seat of local festivities.
