Temple of Lay Hsi
The temple of Hsi Lai is the largest temple and monastery Bouddhiste S in Occident. It is located on the hills at the foot Heights of Hacienda, the California, suburbs of Los Angeles.
The temple was finished in 1988 at a cost of $10 million. It is the idea of Hsing principal Worthy Yun to propagate “humanistic Buddhism” and to create a pure ground here on ground. The temple of Hsi Lai is built to achieve these goals in the United States. The objectives of the temple are to maintain the Buddhist missionaries by education, to propagate Buddhism by cultural activities, to profit the company by charitable programs, and to build crowd by Buddhist practices.
To go to the front of the Chinese-American community in the valley of San Gabriel, the temple was an appointment during the countryside of the Mexican American dregs Baca of sheriff of the county of Los Angeles.
In 1991, Hsing Yun founded the university of Hsi Lai in Rosemead, California. In 2004, the university changed its name into university of the west and named Dr. Lewis Lancaster as president.
