The concept of temple-mountain finds its origin in Khmère civilization. It was about a Temple builds at the top of a pyramid which was to represent the mount crowned Mérou in India. However, in Hindu mythology this mount represents the center of the universe on which the gods live, as the Greek divinities live on Olympe. This civilization just like had an architectural heritage imported of India the religions of use in the world angkorien. Thus, for the Khmer S these artificial outgrowths symbolized Mérou on which they built a temple dedicated to their late king-god.
