The Temnospondyles ( Temnospondyli , of the Greek temnein , to cross and spondulos vertebra) form an important taxon and extremely various of giant Amphibians which thrived in the whole world during the Carbonifère, the Permien and the Trias. Last the survivor of this group lived until the Cretaceous.

Description

The general structure, the cranium, and in particular the pédicellées teeth bicuspid strongly resemble those of the current Anoure S and salamanders.

Biotopes

The species of this taxon have are found on great range of biotope on the whole of the continents. They were watery, semi-watery, terrestrial, and some let us tax lived close to the marine shores.

Originally, the species gathered by Synapomorphie in the order of the Temnospondyli was it according to the structure of their vertebrae. These fossils have complex vertebrae made up of several separate elements. Recent research shows that this technique of single classification is not viable any more.
