Temblor
In the Scandinavian Mythology, the troll is an living being in the mountains or the hillocks ( bergtroll ). They are giants incarnating the natural forces, as well as the Titans. Odin had had to kill Ymir, the giant from which it had been born, to ensure the reign of the gods and the men, according to a scenario pointing out the Castration Ouranos by his/her son Cronos and the victory of the Olympian gods over the Titans. The trolls were giants who had emerged from the body of Ymir; they symbolize the natural forces in their elementary energy. The Christianisation of the Scandinavia deeply decreased the size of the trolls and deteriorated the reputation of these beings which were formerly rather regarded as animals and naive that like malfaisants. As the Church did not manage to eliminate the popular beliefs, it made of the troll a being of small size (similar to the Lutin or Korrigan of the French folklore) and especially a monster, often identified with Satan in the popular tales. The Scandinavian Folklore resisted the Christian hostility particularly well, and the pagan festival of Midsommar (which was christianized in “Fête of the Saint Jean”) testifies to the permanence of the ancestral rites. With the crumbling of the Lutheran influence in Scandinavia, the troll ceased being regarded as a monster, without to find his ancestral size: it is from now on funny of creature, to which one allots such or such anecdote cocasse, which is used to explain the presence of a bizarrery in the landscape (rock launched by a troll, for example), or which one tells the adventures with the children.
In French, the word would have derived in funny , by preserving the essence of the direction imposed by Christianity (the comic one, the silly thing, or spite).
Trolls in modern works
Tolkien took as a starting point this creature to give it to the last style in Bilbo the hobbit and the trilogy of the Seigneur of the rings . Other authors of fantastic works were inspired some, of which in particular the roleplays.

The trolls were created by Melkor at the first Age of the world, but their origin is not known. Sylvebarbe ( Treebeard in the original version) speaks and compares their force about it with that of Ents.
In Bilbo the Hobbit , they are described like very large (good ten meters in height), powerful, ugly and particularly stupid. Their thick skin protects them from the blows, but the majority are transformed into stone under the rays of the sun. They live in caves. They pile up treasures, kill for the pleasure and eat man, Hobbit, dwarf or Elfe as soon as they can.

But through them advanced with broad strides, with howlings of animals, a large company of trolls of the mountains of Gorgoroth. Larger and broader than the Men, they were vêtus only of one very adjusted network of scales corneas, or perhaps was this them hideous leather, but they carried enormous round and black shields, and they held up heavy hammers in their knotty hands.

In the Disc-world
In the Disc-world, the trolls are silicieuses creatures. The other people of the disc regard them as stupid creatures what is partly false: the trolls have a superconductive Cerveau which does not function effectively that for low the Température S. the stupid trolls of the Ville S were undoubtedly formerly of brilliances spirits when they lived in their Montagne S.
One as intends to say as the trolls are violent one and dangerous and that they do not hesitate to devour the human S. They are also false, but although them Métabolisme and them Estomac is unable to extract any value Nutritive from living organisms based on the chemistry of carbon, it is always possible to find trolls able to test. Moreover there exists always a play troll rather similar to the football but which consists in striking all in a human head until it bursts.
There exists a very strong animosity between trolls and dwarf S. This one is cultural than genetic as much. It is that the dwarves are forms of life of which the only goal seems to be to dig the rock in the search of stones and metals invaluable, and that the trolls are in addition rock forms of life filled with invaluable stones (the Dent S of trolls are in Diamant) which do not hesitate to violently dismember any individual who dares to give them a blow of Pioche in the foot.
The Gargouille S are a species of urban trolls who live in Symbiose with the gutter S, channeling water by their Oreille S and rejecting it by the Bouche, that they cannot close (what gene significantly their elocution). They move very slowly.
Téthis is a marine troll originating in the world of Bathys. It is primarily composed of Eau. It appears in the Eighth Color .
Culturally, two things are important to underline:
- the trolls consider that one moves with move back in time: the past is known and visible thus it is in front of them whereas the future is unknown and invisible thus behind them.
- Naturally naked, the trolls consider that the height of the erotism consists in wearing clothing. However certain women trolls try to make push lichen on their head in Zinzins of Olive-Wadi.

For the background, the tribes troll of Midgard (the Scandinavian kingdom) decided to be combined with the human ones and the dwarves of the same area for, with the assistance of the Kobold tribes, to allow Midgard to enter the war opposing Albion (the kingdom of Roy Arthur) to Hibernia (the Celtic kingdom), making of this duel a war of 3 kingdoms.
Warcraft
In Warcraft , the trolls are not very imposing creatures. They are distinguished from the Orc S by their trick and their magic voodoo, but the orcs have a higher force. This aspect is very developed starting from Warcraft III and in its extension The Frozen Throne , and World off Warcraft . In Warcraft II , they are simply centered on the damage with the combat and not on the magic.

World off Warcraft
In World off Warcraft, the Darkspear trolls are one of the 5 races of the horde with the orcs, the taurens, thealive ones and the elves of blood. They are physically the second greater race of the play (after the taurens) and are characterized by their Agilité and them Esprit. They can be Voleur, Chasseur, Mage, Shaman, Prêtre and Guerrier (but neither Démoniste nor Paladin) and their mounting is the Raptor. Contrary to the other races of the Horde, the trolls do not have a Capitale and thus live with Orcs. The developers of the play (Blizzard Entertainment) gathered all information almost relative to this race in the universe of World off Warcraft within the Handbook of the Trolls. Many players trolls regard their race as " oubliée" by the developers. Their racial aptitudes are weak and they are victims many bugs (hood t2 robber, etc). To fight against this unjustifiable disinterest of Blizzard concerning the race troll, of the French players gathered under the name of " Face of Troll" Release; (F.L.T.) and defend the cause of the trolls by making pressure on the employees of Blizzard, sometimes even by average violent ones (cf the very media removal of the Master of Kulgeen Plays in particular).
