Telephone keyboard
A telephone keyboard is a type of keyboard equipping the telephone final and of which the principal function is to compose the numbers.
Its configuration is similar to that of the keyboards of Calculatrice or the numerical extensions of the keyboards of computer, with the difference which the provision of the figures is reversed, i.e. starting with the top and not with bottom. Each numerical key has also an alphabetical value . Formerly, these values were distributed as follows:
and formerly allowed to make correspond the code of the Telephone center in Paris region (the first three letters of the name) to the corresponding figure (example: 227 for BALzac, 027 for Observatory, 700 for Rocket).
A time disappeared on engraving from the keys, this alphabetical correspondence is again visible, especially since the use of the keyboards of the mobile phones to scan for a name in its repertory or to write SMS. However, the letters are distributed differently:
The telephone keyboards comprise also keys allowing to take the line, to hang up again, renumber ((a)) or to sail in menus posted on a screen.
