A specialist in the image

David Fincher is to be classified among the “visual” realizers, as well as a Jean-Pierre Jeunet with which it divides the same operator chief occasionally, Darius Khondji. Resulting from the world of the special effects, publicity and the vidéos-clip, Fincher has a perfect command of the techniques allowing to obtain made visual that it wishes, in particular as regards Photographie and of Post-production. This control and this interest for the image made that one could qualify his realization of maniérée, in particular at the time of the exit of Zodiac. As of its first feature film, Alien 3 , it shows an impressive visual control, although he will regret the lack of freedom thereafter granted by Fox at that time, which will however produce later its “free” film more: Fight Club . Come from the world of the advertizing and the video clip , Fincher, virtuoso of the camera, acquired in relatively little films (6 on the whole) its blazon of large realizer, and one can compare his course with that of Ridley Scott.

The topics of predilection of its films relate to the representation of the Paranoïa and the characters principal protagonists of films are put at severely tested. Fight Club was criticized for its political orientation. One showed it to propagate an anarchistic message , even nihilist, or contrary fascist, conveying a libertarian message or of pro-homosexual militancy.

David Fincher was also an active member of the Demoscene.

Retrospective of career

After various musical clips, in particular for (Madonna) and a large turn in the special Effets (the return of Jedi, amongst other things) David Fincher carries out its first feature film: Alien 3.

Last task to succeed excellent the Alien - the eighth passenger of Ridley Scott and spectacular the Aliens the return of James Cameron, more especially as the two first opus were successes with the Box office. David Fincher must thus show a remarkable coolness to carry out a film successful cinématographiquement and to make output: 78 million Dollars to the the United States for Alien - the eighth passenger (1979) against 81 million dollars for Aliens the return (1986).

For its first film, the Realizer just 30 years old, delivers a dark work (as well in the content as the form) of a great technical control… To the final assembly, the producers nonsatisfied by the end with the feature film, turned over one second from there, making in addition to the agreement of the Réalisateur. Deprived of the “Final Cut”, David Fincher will disparage his film thereafter.

The May 22nd 1992, Alien 3 leaves on the American screens. The film brings back 55 million dollars of receipt to the the United States, which is insufficient for its budget of 50 million dollars (cinema), but the film diminishes largely in the remainder of the Monde, paying more than 159 million dollars on the whole.

Three years later, concerned not to repeat its errors passed, Fincher is on the point of putting in scene a film of more restricted scale but which will make of him large the Cinéaste which it became…

Qualified already “Great classic” at the time of his exit into the room, Seven leaves the September 22nd 1995 to the the United States. The film makes good figure in the cinematographic landscape and ineluctably, David Fincher is pointed out in the profession, then to court by the whole Hollywood when the film manages to cumulate 100 million dollars of receipt in addition to the Atlantic and more than de 320 million in the whole Monde, for an average budget of 33 million dollars.

It is at that time that is born then a complicity between Brad Pitt, which interprets the main role, and the Réalisateur, because of their growing popularities. Freehand to look further into its dark vision of the Company, after hunting for the Serial killer, Fincher engages for its third feature film: The Range.

In this feature film, Fincher depicts the upheaval of a rich person businessman (Michael Douglas), when it agrees to take part in a quite mysterious roleplay…

The Game leaves on the American screens the September 12th 1997 and cumulates 48 million dollars of receipts on the American territory, for a budget estimated at 50 million dollars.

In spite of this half-failure, David Fincher does not lose north for as much, The Game accumulates surroundings 110 million dollars in the whole Monde, and the number of fans of the Réalisateur is growing.

Ripe to pass to high speed, the Réalisateur puts in scene 2 years after The Game, one of the polemical films of the decade. The October 15th 1999, leaves on the American screens Fight Club, adaptation of the novel of Chuck Palahniuk of the same name.

At the top of his art, David Fincher carries out a film virtuoso like seldom and delivers one of the most scouring visions on the Consumer society, mixed with the topic of the Schizophrénie, defending the self-destruction body resulting to the awakening from the person, and accompanied by a connotation subjacent Homosexuel between the two protagonists of the film (Brad Pitt and Edward Norton).

The film quickly becomes the last Film worship realized at the 20th century for the community Cinéphile and the fans. In spite of its failure with the Box American office: 37 million dollars of receipts for a budget of 65 million dollars, Fincher is now a Réalisateur which weighs artistically. Fight Club accumulates more than 100 million dollars on the Planet.

After the overflows of Fight Club, the studios give to the Réalisateur a film of order overmeasure to its competences visual: Panic grass Room.

In this thriller Hollywood typical, David Fincher deploys all his technical talents and makes a success of a setting once again very virtuoso, with the service of an intrigue basic but not wobbly.

The March 22nd 2002 with the the United States, Panic Room pays more than 96 million Dollars on the American territory for a budget of 48 million and accumulates more than 196 million dollars of receipts in the whole Monde.

After 5 years of absence and several projects fallen through, David Fincher carries out its 6th feature film: Zodiac left the March 2nd 2007 with the the United States.

For this film, Fincher takes the party to purify its film of all that shines or sparkles, leaving room only to the scrupulous investigation that him even and his/her collaborators (police and journalists) carried out to prepare his film: Documentary Zodiac, almost , on the misdeeds of the one of the most famous Serials killers of the American history.

The film brings back 33 million dollars of receipts to the the United States, for a budget of 65 million. But it is deadened by the world receipts estimated at 84 million dollars.
