Telefónica
Telefonica, S.A. is a Spanish multinational corporation of telecommunications. It is present in Europe, South America and in Morocco, and counts 44 million fixed lines including 19 million in Spain. Its subsidiary company of mobile telephony Telefónica Móviles account 54 million subscribers including 20 million in Spain. Telefónica is the largest shareholder of gate Internet Terra Networks, and delivers the ADSL with more than 1 million subscribers.
Profile of the company
Telefónica is an telecommunications operator, leader on the markets of Spanish and Portuguese language. The company holds more than 203 million customers throughout the world (figures of 2006) in about fifty country where the firm is established. The main market, of which it was the historical operator, is the Spain but a score of market are strategic for the group. The countries where the operator is well established are the countries of Spanish and Portuguese language: the Portugal, the Brazil, the Peru, the Argentinian , the Chile, the Colombia, El El Salvador, the Mexico and the Guatemala as well as the Morocco (second operator of the country). Since acquisition in 2006 of the multinational of English mobile telephony O2 plc (for 26 billion euros), of new countries became quite as strategic to connect the growth of the group: the the United Kingdom, the Ireland, the Czech Republic, the Slovakia and the Germany.The company is with dimensions on the continuous market of the Spanish Stock Exchanges (Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Valence) and in the Stock Exchanges of Tokyo, New York, the SEAQ Internacional of the Stock Exchange of London, Paris, Frankfurt, London and Lyon.
In 2006, the group separated from its subsidiary company Telefónica Publicidad E Información (TPI), and désengageant group of audio-visual Endemol with the profit of Mediaset in May 2007.
Activities of the group
The group is present in fixed telephony (in Spain, in Morocco and in Latin America), in mobile telephony (through 02 plc, of Movistar/Telefónica Móviles and Meditel), the access to Internet by the traditional phone network and by ADSL, the gates and contents on the Web (Terra Networks, the cal-centers (Atento group), data transmission and it come to launch the Internet 3G+ to Morocco.
