The Tekos (formerly called Swivels ) form one of the six people Amerindian S of Guyana. They are currently between 200 and 400 people. Of language and culture Tupi-Guarani, they live, like their brothers Wayampis in the interior of the Guyana, in the east on the Means Oyapock (village of Camopi), in the west on the Top Maroni and the Tampock (villages of Elahé, Kayodé, Taluwen and Twenké)

Policy

Chiefs usual Wayana and Teko of villages of Élahé, Kayodé, Taluwen and Twenké are pronounced for classification of south of Guyana in National park with condition that their territories are included in zone Heart of Park in order to there to prohibit all Gold washing (12/29/2005), which is theoretically already prohibited there, but illegally practiced, by strongly polluting the environment by mercury.
