Teil

Teil or Teil d' Ardèche is a common French, located in the department of the Ardèche and the area the Rhone-Alps, in the old historical area of the Vivarais.

Geography

Main door of Southernmost Ardeche, Teil is a turntable for tourism but also a commercial and economic pole important. The city of Teil is located at the edge of the Rhone opposite Montélimar.

History

Teil had an important deposit PLM then the SNCF. From its geographical location, about equal distance between Lyon and Nimes, the deposit of Teil allowed on its North-South axis, to relieve left bank of the the Rhone. In addition to its vocation goods and its role of deposit-relay, it was in charge with the local service roads travellers but also of all the service on the lines ardéchoises, being thus grafted on the artery Lyon-Nimes and more particularly antennas of Pouzin with Privas, Teil with Lalevade-in Ardèche of their junction of Vogüé to Alès (via Robiac-Rochessadoule) and Saint-Sernin with Largentière.

Demography

Places and monuments

  • the Church Saint-Etienne de Mélas, XIe and XIIe century, classified Historic building in 1868. Of Romance style Vivarois, it comprises a single nave, a northern vault of the 11th century and a very old octagonal vault of the 9th century.
