Summary

STRIKER COVE, LAKE HEUVELMANS, BLUE MOUNTAINS, GEORGIA

Dr. Farraday complains with Dr. Bailey about disappearance alarming about a species about frogs in the surroundings about the Lake Heuvelmans. This one remains skeptic on the conclusions of Farraday according to which the frogs would be exterminated by the Man. After the departure of Farraday, Dr. Bailey turns over on bank of the lake to seek his beeper. He finds it at the place where he had dropped it but he abruptly is grabbed by something of powerful and is trailed in water while howling.

ROAD OF COUNT 33, RIGDON, GEORGIA

The agents Mulder and Scully are on the way towards the lake Heuvelmans. Part urgently, Scully did not even have time to find somebody to deal with his dog, Queequeg. In spite of its questions, Mulder remains vague on the reasons of their departure… until she guesses that it is interested by stories of disappearances in connection with Big Blue, a monster of the lakes. According to Mulder, two weeks earlier, the chief of a band of boyscouts disappeared in the same circumstances as professor Bailey.

LABORATORY OF ECOLOGICAL SCIENCES, LAKE HEUVELMANS

Their first witness is professor Farraday, last nobody to have seen Dr. Bailey. He is bitter and milked Bailey of hypocrite to have reduced to nothing more than three years of studies in two hours of inspection. Of course, he states not to have killed Bailey. Why be concerned with an human being when of the whole species are in the process of disappearance? Farraday bursts of laughing when Mulder requires of him what it knows of Big Blue. In three years of observations in the surroundings of the lake, never he did not see the least trace of the existence of the creature. He denounces the behavior of deviation, the men preferring rather to seek OVNIs or monsters to be interested in the true problems.

LAKE HEUVELMANS, BLUE MOUNTAINS, GEORGIA

Mulder thinks that it could be a question of a regression towards prehistory, a lake plésiosaure. Scully, it, affirms to have grown since it does not believe any more in these stories. It is not the opinion of the manager of a souvenir shop which they question. He tells that it does without strange things around this lake, like the history of an escaped cow of a ranch and who would have been made attack by Big Blue. Obviously, the creature feeds its goodwill. It presents to them Ansel Bray, a local photographer, who spends his time seeking a trace of the creature (it is the cow of his/her father which was attacked).

They are stopped by the arrival of a sinner who announces macabre discovered to them: the lower part of an human body, divided on the level of the belly. It is about Scott Mosley, the missing boy-scout. Showing one rationality in extreme cases of the bad faith; Scully suggests that the man could drown in a state of intoxication and be devoured by fish after a long stay under water. During the night, Ted Bertram, the manager of the souvenir shop is made attack in its turn, whereas it was occupied printing in the ground of false traces of legs griffues.

LAKE HEUVELMANS, BLUE MANTAGNES, GEORGIA, 2nd DAY

The Hindt sheriff firmly opposes the suggestion of Mulder to close the lake with the visitors. A little later, Stone and Chick, two teenagers, alert the police force. STRIKER COVE, LAKE HEUVELMANS, BLUE MOUNTAINS, GEORGIA, THE NIGHT

The come evening, in their motel, Mulder and Scully try to decipher the fuzzy photographs left by Ansel. One of them resembles pointed teeth according to Mulder, but Scully does not believe in it. Letting manage with its photographs, Scully takes along Queequeg to make its strolls night. Once outside, the dog flees towards wood. Scully will not find of him that its leaves jagged. In state of shock, it joined Mulder. This one teaches him that the photographs represent places where the monster was seen. For five years, these places have approached the edge of the lake more and more, towards Striker Cove more exactly. For a certain reason, for lack of food for example, the monster would have could be attracted by bank. But Scully is shocked too much to listen to it.

LAKE HEUVELMANS, BLUE MOUNTAINS, GEORGIA

Scully agrees to lead a boat, of night, to visit the area corresponding to the last observations of Ansel. Their boat enters brutally in collision with something the large one, which moved right towards them. Two powerful shocks against the hull and the boat takes water. The agents are forced to leave the ship and take refuge on a tiny rock in the middle of nowhere. With only one lamp, it is impossible for them to know in which direction the bank is. While waiting for the helps, they pass part of the night to speaking. Scully tells in Mulder that it called its Queequeg dog in reference to a character of Mobby Dick (just like his/her father called it Starbuck). It compares Mulder with Achab. It reproaches him for resembling to the missing photographer too much, in the search of a truth which he is the only one to continue.

Scully: The Truth or the white whale? Which difference?

Mulder thinks that the creature has to adapt its behavior to go invisible to its principal predator: the man. For it, to approach bank must be an act despaired to ensure its survival. They are joined by Dr. Farraday. At night exit to deal with its frogs, this one was attracted by the voices of the two agents. It shows them bank, near to a few meters.
