Ted Strickland

Ted Strickland (born the August 4th 1941, in Lucasville, Ohio) is a American Politician , member of the Democratic party, appointed 6th district of Ohio to the Chambre of the representatives of the United States of 1993 with 1995 and of 1997 with 2007 and governor of Ohio since the January 8th 2007.

Resulting from an large family of nine children, Ted Strickland was wire of workman and the first child of the family to carry out higher learning.

Ted Strickland is graduate of a Master off Arts (1966) and of a Doctorat in Psychologie of the Université of Kentucky (1980).

He is married in Frances Strickland.

Strickland worked like Psychologue with the prison of high security of Lucasville, was administrator of Methodist childrens' home, and a professor of psychology in Shawnee State University (Portsmouth, Ohio). It also acted as minister of religion Méthodiste.

Political career

In 1976, 1978 and 1980, Strickland was candidate democratic with the seat of federal deputy of the 6th district of Ohio losing twice against the outgoing holder William H. Harsha, then against Bob McEwen.

In November 1992, he is again candidate against Bob McEwen following the new electoral cutting of the district, a priori less unfavourable with the democrats. Strickland carries it accuracy with 3  468 votes in advance on more 240  000 voters.

In 1994, Strickland tries to renew its mandate but is beaten of accuracy by the republican Frank Cremeans.

In 1996, Strickland tries to take again its seat of deputy and accuracy carries it. He is then re-elected in 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2004.

In 2006, he is the democratic candidate at the post of governor and tries to succeed the republican Bob Taft, who cannot represent himself. Strickland deals with the Secretary of State of Ohio, the republican Afro-américain Ken Blackwell, with the economist Libertarien Bill Peirce and with the ecologist Bob Fitrakis.

Strickland profits from the support of the mayors of the more big cities of Ohio: Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, and Youngstown.

The November 7th 2006, it is elected with 60  % of the voices against 37  % with Ken Blackwell and takes up duty the January 8th 2007.
