The technological survey is an activity which implements Technique S of acquisition, storage and analysis of information, concerning a product or a process, on the state of the art and the evolution of sound Environnement Scientifique, Technique, industrialist or commercial, in order to collect, organize, then to analyze and diffuse the relevant information which will make it possible to anticipate the evolution S, and which will facilitate the Innovation.

The technological survey can feed from data coming from all types of source S, some method S of collection or certain sources being field of competence of specialists (publication of Brevet S). The technological survey is distinguished from the industrial Espionnage by two of its characteristics:

  • it recovers opened information, accessible to all, and not of internal use with a company,
  • it is not interested solely in information resulting from only one company.

The strategic Veille generally includes the technological survey. But the technological survey is also regarded as strategic.

The technological survey is a preparatory activity with a Technology transfer.
