Technical eligibility
In the field of the Telecommunications, the technical eligibility of the phone line is its capacity to support a proposed service typically (: ADSL).
Quality of the phone line
Technical eligibility with a service using the phone line depends above all on quality on this one, which one measures by the Atténuation (in dB). In the absence of systematically being able to measure this attenuation, one bases oneself to determine the quality of a line on the theoretical weakening of this one, which is calculated starting from the theoretical values of the attenuation of a signal with 300 Khz on the copper wires. The length of the line (between the residence of the subscriber and the Telephone center) and the diameter of wire of Cuivre used (of 0,4 mm with 1 mm) are the two principal elements used to calculate weakening.
In addition to eligibility with services like the ADSL or television by ADSL, the quality of the line allows to estimate the Débit (in kbit/s) supported by this one, according to technology used.
Various reasons can lead to a reduction in quality of the phone line:
- bad quality of copper (the copper used for the lines in France east generally of good quality)
- devices emitting a Magnetic field (neons, public lighting,…)
- presence of Condensing Ferrite or of test in end of line
- state of insulators protecting the copper wires
Equipment present at the telephone center
To be able to deliver a service like the ADSL with its subscribers, each Fournisseur of access to Internet uses equipment installed in the telephone center, which can be those of the historical operator France Telecom or an operator of Dégroupage. The most important equipment is DSLAM. Eligibility with the ADSL supposes the presence of at least a DSLAM in the telephone center. To profit from offers in deblocking, the telephone center of service road must be equipped with at least a DSLAM of the operator concerned.
Other factors of eligibility
In addition, the eligibility of the line to a service as the ADSL can be called in question by another service which could enter in conflict (for example, system of telemonitoring). Certain lines are also ineligible because of a frequential Multiplexage.
Tests of eligibility ADSL
These tests make it possible to know before the inscription a supplier of access to Internet if the phone line is eligible with the ADSL, if it is in the coverage area of the deblocking of the operators, and consequently which flows and services one can hope. The tests mentioned below give moreover a certain number of technical informations relating to the phone line and the telephone center on which this one is connected.
Tests of eligibility to the Cable
These tests, whose object is to determine the possibilities of reaching Internet by the Câble, are in general integrated into the principal tests of eligibility ADSL. These tests call upon the bases of cover of the various communes by the networks of principal the Câblo-opérateurs.
