Technical center of the book of higher education
The Technical center of the book of higher education (CTLes) is a national public corporation in administrative matter located at Marne-the-Valley (Seine-et-Marne), charged conservation and communication of documents for the Parisian establishments of higher education.
History
The Parisian college libraries have very little place to preserve their collections whereas a great number of the preserved books only are seldom communicated. Extremely of this report and experiments already undertaken in other countries, it is decided to preserve the collections at low level of rotation in common stores, located outside Paris.
CTLes is created by decree 94-922 of October 24th, 1994. The building q' it occupies, conceived by Dominique Perrault, is divided with the Technical center of the National library of France. CTLes has to with it 80 km linear of shelves on 4 levels.
Missions
CTLes collects, preserves and communicates books which are entrusted to him by the libraries of higher education (universities, great establishments). Certain documents are yielded to him by the universities: it are then available on the spot or by the Prêt between libraries.
It can also accommodate collections for one short duration, during work of a college library. CTLes has for that from then 2006 of a provisional platform of storage (8 kilometers linear).
It is also charged to set up plans of conservation shared in order to rationalize the conservation of a certain number of resources.
Lastly, since 1997, CTLes is in charge of the distribution of the specimen of the registration of copyright editor, when this one is entrusted at a college library.
Organization
CTLes depends on the ministry in charge of Higher education. It has a board of directors of twelve members: three members of right (the director of Higher education, the vice-chancellor of the Academy of Paris and the president of BnF), four representatives of the users establishments, four personalities of the world of the libraries or the University and a staff representative. Guests and the administrators of CTLes are added there who have consltative voice.
He is directed by a Conservateur of the libraries named by ministerial decree for one three years duration.
