Teófilo Braga
Joaquim Teófilo Fernandes Braga , more known under the name of Teófilo or Teophilo Braga , is a poet, historian of the literature, essay writer and Politician Portuguese, born the February 24th 1843 with Ponta Delgada (the Azores), dead the January 28th 1924 with Lisbon.
Fixed on the continent during the Years 1860, it obtained a license in Droit to the Université of Coimbra in 1868 then, starting from 1872, occupied a modern pulpit of literature to the Université of Lisbon.
The politician
He made his entry in the Politique activates in 1878, while standing as a candidate with the delegation under the colors of the federalistic republicans. Then he exerted various responsibilities within the Portuguese Republican party.At the time of the legislative elections of the August 28th 1910, it is elected appointed with Lisbon, at the same time as a majority of republican deputies. The October 4th, a republican rising, supported by the soldiers, constrained the Manual king II to be fled in Great Britain. The Republic is proclaimed the following day and Teófilo Braga assumes the presidency of the provisional government until the August 24th 1911.
In the instability of the first years of the Portuguese Republic, he was recalled to the capacity, in 1915, to replace Manuel of Arriaga to the presidency of the Republic, but there remained there only May 29th with the August 4th, being replaced with the station, the August 5th, by Bernardino Machado.
