The tchiluba (also written tshiluba according to the English orthography, or ciluba according to the standardized orthography) is a Langue spoken in the central part of the Democratic republic of Congo in particular in both Kasaï (Western and Eastern). The populations which speak this language are called Bakua-Kalonji (of which Bakua-Nga or Bakwanga ), and Bena-Mpuka, also called respectively Bena-Mutu' has Mukuna and Bena Tshibanda, of the area of Eastern Kasaï (chief town Mbuji-Mayi), the Bena luluwa (of which the bena Mutombo and Bakwa-Katawa), of Western Kasaï (chief town Kananga), and the Bakwa Luntu ; these linguistic groups form the Luba ethnos group or commonly “the baluba” or Luba-Kasaï because there is also in the province of Katanga. Many an other ethnos group of both Kasai learned the tchiluba in contact with balubas, but preserve nevertheless their language.

In these two provinces, this language comprises some differences Phonétique S and lexical. Some examples:

  • the sounds p (brought closer and not closed lips) and - H in the words lupemba and luhemba ( kaolin ), or the locality of Lupatapata / Luhatahata , respectively in Western Kasaï and Eastern Kasaï;
  • matamba and kaleji ( sheets of manioc ) respectively in Western Kasaï and Eastern Kasaï. Indeed, it is to better indicate the luba-phons of Western Kasaï under the total term of kasaïens, the luluas not being the only ones with speaking this language. In the same way, in Eastern Kasaï, Bakwanga constitutes under large clan included in that of Bakwa-Kalonji, beside that of Bena Mpuka.
Bakwa, and Bena- mean " Descent of… ". There exists a traditional pronunciation and a traditional or rural pronunciation, the latter being specific to the bena-Mutombo and Bakua-Katawa, and Bakwa-Luntu. Example: Mbuji (goat) at the school or Mbuji-Mayi, and " mbushi" , traditional or rural. " Nzolu" (Hen) or " Nzolo" and " Nsolu" ; " Nvula" (rain) and " Mfula" … thus of following the manner of Portuguese and Spanish. There exist other regionalisms such as those of the bakete and the bakwa-mfuyi, which are also to regard as alternatives of the tshiluba, because all these luba-phons are always included/understood in spite of the various accents and the phonetic and semantic variations.
