Tchetchene

Introduction

The tchetchene is a Langue pertaining to the Groupe vainakh of the group of the Caucasian Langues ( noxchiin mott / Нохчийнмотт in tchetchene). He is spoken mainly in Chetchnia and by the diaspora tchetchene throughout the world. The number of speakers is evaluated to a million of speakers.

The written language is founded on the dialect of Grozny. Initially written with the Arabic alphabet, the tchetchene was noted in Latin characters in 1925, before passing to the Cyrillic in 1938. In 1992, after the proclamation of the independence of Chetchnia, the Latin alphabet (enriched by diacritic S) started to be again used. The language tchetchene borrowed certain words from the languages with which it was in contact (Turkish, Arab, Russian,…).
