Tchavolo Schmitt

Tchavolo Schmitt is a guitarist of Jazz manouche born with Belleville (Parisian district) in 1954.

Biography

Initiated as of the 6 years age to the guitar by his/her mother (her father, practiced the violin to him), Tchavolo Schmitt develops with the passing of years a virtuosity in the style manouche whose fame exceeds quickly the limits of the Alsace, its area of origin, and the fact of becoming an influential musician among his pars which it finds in particular with the Door of Montreuil or the Tankard of the Chips with Saint-Ouen, mythical places of the swing manouche. It becomes professional in 1979, year during which, after having left Paris for a return to its Alsatian roots, it joined the " group; Hot Club da Sinti" to join it in particular to the violonist Wedeli Köhler, with the guitarist Schmeling Lehmann and the double bass player Jani Lehmann. A single recording in LP (today collector) will be born in 1981. Its career marks then a downtime during the years 1980, then one finds it in 1993 in the " group; Gypsy Reunion" (with inter alia Dorado Schmitt, Patrick Saussois and Gino Reinhardt), and it leaves finally its first album under its name in 2000, with the friendly support and the active participation of Romane: it is about Alors? … Here! . This album will be followed into 2001 of Miri Familia , then into 2002 of Swing , original soundtrack of film of Tony Gatlif where Tchavolo Schmitt plays itself the role of Miraldo, a professor of guitar. In 2004, Angelo Debarre joins him to produce a disc-homage to Django Reinhardt entitled Mémoires , and in 2005 it again leaves a personal album entitled Loutcha .
