Tchaourou

Tchaourou is one of the largest communes of the Bénin of the Department of Borgou. It east shelters populations of various ethnos groups, mainly the Nagots, the Baribas and the Peuls. It is the commune of origin of President Yayi Boni. Tchaourou is a primarily agricultural commune. However illicit sales volumes of fuel, known under not of " Kpayo" , developed in the area counts held of its proximity of the large oil neighbor the Nigeria.

Tchaourou was formerly one of the most appreciated destinations transhumants Peuls coming from the North of the country or the countries bordering on North (Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria). Consequently of this seasonal migration, several fodder trees like the Khaya senegalensis , Afzelia africana , which were frequent, are now very rare in the commune. However, the disappearance of these very useful species of trees, is due to the action combined of itinerant agriculture on Brûlis, the exploitation of their wood, a very snuffed sawlog, its barks for traditional medicine, and the pruning by the Peuls shepherds.
