Tazieh

Tazieh تعزیه indicate in Iran a particular theatrical kind, commemorating the martyrdom of the Imam Hussayn, which is played only during the month of Mouharram and with the Achoura. The Arab word of origin means “expression of sympathy, mourning and consolation”. Tazieh dates from the 10th century and it took importance at 16th and the 17th century during the dynasty Safavide. Its contemporary presentation dates rather from the time Qajar at the 19th century. It is besides at that time that is built with Teheran the first popular theater for the official organization of Tazieh.
