Tax on the stock exchange transactions
Instituted in France in 1893, the tax on the stock exchange transactions is a tax proportional which strikes the operations of purchase and sale, the cash or in the long term, of stock exchange securities, in particular the actions.
In 2006, its rate is of 3 per thousand on the fraction of the operation lower than 153.000 euros, and of 1,5 per thousand on the fraction which exceeds this sum, like on the operations of carryforward.
An abatement of 23 euros is practiced with each operation (either an exemption for the transactions lower than 7 666,67 euros).
The amount due is reached a maximum with 610 euros (either a decreasing tax for the transactions higher than 203 333,33 euros).
There exists a certain number of exemptions.
Discharged by the stock exchange intermediaries with the Treasury, the tax on the stock exchange transactions brought back in 2004 to the State 203 million euros, taken on the natural persons and morals operating out of purse.
The parliamentary authorized this Tax and social security deduction by articles 978 and following of the general Code of the taxes.
An amendment with the finance bill for 2008 envisages the suppression of this tax in 2008, compensated by the increase in the tax rate of the Plus-value S on the transfers of transferable securities, which would pass from 16 to 18% (except social samples, of 11%).
