The tauroctonie is a religious representation in relation to the universe; the Iranian god romanized Mithra, on the order of the Sun which it looks over its shoulder, cuts the throat of a Taureau whose blood fertilizes the world. The forces of the Evil represented by a Dog, a Snake and a scorpion bite the animal to be opposed to the sacrifice and the fecundation of the world.
This scene is of a cosmic nature and belonged to the worship of the god. Under ancient Rome, this worship intiatic was conveyed in all the Empire by the Roman legions.
