Taurine
The taurine is a derivative of Amino-acid whose chemical formula is: NH2-CH2-CH2-SO3H (acid 2-aminoethanesulfonic, in the international nomenclature).
The taurine is naturally present in the body of the man. It is provided during great physical efforts to reduce the effect of toxins.
It is implied in the mechanism of digestion of the lipids since it is present in the structure of the biliary acids (taurocholic acid and taurochenodesoxycholic) precursory of biliary salts charged to emulsify (in the form of micelles) the food lipids (of which, in particular, cholesterol) arriving in the duodenum after a meal.
The taurine is present in certain energy drinks, like the Red Bull, prohibited in France, after the conclusions of AFSSA of 2003 and speaking about “undesirable neuro-behavioral effects”.
The Chat synthesizes taurine, but generally in insufficient quantity. It finds the complementary resources by eating meat or industrial products nouveau riches in taurine (industrial croquettes, milk for kitten…)
Effect of the taurine on the organization
The Taurine is an Amino-acid naturally present in the Human body (“the taurine is a natural product, one finds some at the man but also in oysters or eggs, explains Bernard Klein, chemist in Lausanne”). The organization is able besides to produce it naturally, but to date, no reliable study does not confirm or does not cancel the beneficial effects of an additional food supply of taurine, nor on the harmfulness or the possible consequences (for example on the nervous system) of the massive absorption of taurine. The addition of taurine in food is interdict in a certain number of countries. It is about a substance still badly known, detected for the first time at the end of the years 1950 in the bile of the bull.
The taurine was identified as being a neuro-transmitter, that is to say a substance which supports the transmissions between the neurons in the brain, and would have in more one effect of detoxication and reinforcement of the cardiac contractility, but the concrete effects of the taurine on the organization remain not very clear. “No scientific study was carried out on this product, explains Jacques Diézi, professor of pharmacology at the University of Lausanne.” After an extreme physical effort, the body would not produce any more the required quantities of taurine, and it would result an insufficiency from it.
It should be known that the taurine was tested on the GI during the war of Korea and the war in Vietnam. The taurine was employed like antidepressant and to increase the mental vigilance of the soldiers in action but that resulted in to cause headaches and even sometimes of the brain hemorrhages.
