Tauran

The Taurans are an imaginary race of the eternal War (1974) of Joe Haldeman.

Origin of the name

The first incident known with Taurans took place close to Aldébaran, a probe accompanying a vessel colonist had returned only. The army had concluded with an extraterrestrial attack. As the term “Aldébaranien” had seemed too difficult to pronounce, one had chosen the term “Tauran”, an allusion to the constellation of the Bull in which Aldébaran is.

Description

Taurans are seen for the first time by the soldier William Mandella, at the time of the one of its turns of duty, on planet of Epsilon. It describes them as follows: “ Tauran had two legs and two arms, but the size so mean that you could have enclosed it in your two hands. Under the size, the hips swelled out of horseshoe and made a good 99 of measurement. It hung of them two legs long and emaciated without apparent articulation with the knee. Above the size, its body was reinflated again in a breast piece as imposing as the hips. The arms appeared surprisingly human, however without long musculature and trops. Too many fingers on the hands. No shoulders, not of neck. The head: a nightmarish outgrowth which seemed to have pushed like a Goiter on the massive chest. The two eyes resembled bunches of fish eggs. A bag of nipples as a nose and a hole which could be a mouth which béait where you awaited a Adam's apple.

Taurans reproduce by natural cloning and do not know by the concept of individual.
