Comments
Taupek was born from an order with the Czech draftsman Zdeněk Miller of a cartoon film on the transformation of the Lin. Influenced by the cartoons of Disney, Miller decided to put in scene a mole after being fallen on a taupinière during a walk. The first film entitled Jak krtek ke kalhotkám přišel ( How Taupek obtained its pants ) left in 1956. The later episodes all were produced between 1963 and 2002, by the Czech company Krátký Film Praha. Very popular in the Czechoslovakia of the time, the series was exported mainly in Germany, Poland and with the Japan.
The first episode was commented on but Miller who wished that its cartoons be included/understood in the whole world, decided to reduce to very short exclamations the dialogs. It called upon his daughters to record the voices. These last were also solicited to see films in preview and to validate if the message were comprehensible or not by children.
That took much time to me to realize that when I drew Taupek, I took shape myself. Zdeněk Miller
Prolongation of the series
