Task force 38
The Task force 38 or TF 38 , indicated like Task force 58 according to the moment or also operational Force of fast aircraft carriers ( Fast Carrier Task force ), was principal the operational Force of the United States Navy during second half of the war of the Pacific during the Second world war.
The TF 38 was created in August 1943, with like central processing unit the '' Saratoga '', and under the command of against admiral Frederick Sherman.
The TF 58 was created under the command of Marc Mitscher in January 1944, while the TF 38 continued to exist on paper. The TF 58 was made up around the '' Lexington '' and 5 others Porte-avions, six aircraft carriers light, and a series of ships of support.
The TF was renamed TF 38 year August 1944 under the orders of the admiral William F. Halsey, and was increased to nine aircraft carriers and eight light aircraft carriers in preparation of the Bataille of Leyte.
It briefly became again TF 58 in January 1945 under the orders of the admiral Raymond Spruance, and returned, like TF 38, under the orders of Halsey in May 1945, it until the end of the war.
