The Task force 11 or TF 11 was a Task force of the United States Navy during the Second world war which was formed with the whole beginning of the Campagnes of the Pacific.

The TF 11 was initially made up around the '' Lexington '', then of the '' Saratoga '' until this last is damaged by a Torpille of the Japanese imperial Marine in January 1942. The Lexington became again the center of the TF 11 during the Bataille of the Coral sea until the Saratoga kind of repair.

The TF 11 formed, with TF 16 and TF 18, TF 61 and fought in the Bataille of Solomon Eastern in August 1942. Shortly after this one, the Saratoga again was torpedoed and sent in repair, following what the TF 11 was reduced to the Lexington and some Destroyer S.

In September 1943, the TF 11 was reorganized around the Porte-avions of US Navy light US Princeton (CVL-23) and US Belleau Wood (CVL-24) under the orders of the vice admiral Willis Augustus Lee and took part in the operations of unloading on the island Baker and the island Howland.

In the years 2000

The TF 11, also called Task force Sword , was an American unit of Special forces temporary created fine 2001, at the beginning of the Guerre of Afghanistan (2001) and having for mission of seeking and of eliminating (by capturing them or killing them) the important chiefs from the Taliban S and of Al-Qaida in the south of the Afghanistan, in particular during their escape towards the Pakistan.

Gathering elements of the “Delta Forces”, of DEVGRU, the unit Gray Fox, of has and G Squadrons 22 SAS '' Regiment '' and C Squadron of SBS, this unit operated since bases with the Pakistan, island Oman ease of Masirah and aircraft carrier US Kitty Hawk, placed under the command of the Special Joint Operations Command.

The unit would have also operated in the tribal zones of the Pakistan with agents Pakistani, where would have taken refuge many Talibans and members of Al-Qaida after the conquest of the near total of the Afghanistan by the Afghan forces of the Alliance of north. It the several would have in particular killed July 26th 2002 during confrontations in the tribal zones. As it seems that there were several units operating in Pakistan in 2002, it is difficult to know if in fact well the TF 11 led the main part of the actions of the Special forces to the Pakistan.

The TF 11 seems to be decontaminated in February 2003; the continuation of the operations would have been carried out by the Task force 5, created at the summer 2003.
