Taschereau is a municipality of the province of Quebec (Canada), in the regional municipality of county of Abitibi-West of the administrative area Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Chronology

  • Founded in 1913, the municipality of Taschereau owes its development with the railroad the Transcontinental one which, since 1911, transported its first pioneers. They were established around the named station O' Brien in the honor of an engineer of the Transcontinental one. A mission opened in 1914 pennies the name Saint-Pierre-of-Privat, which reached the statute of parish in 1919.
Later in the year, one created the municipality called Privat with the memory of the lieutenant colonel Marc-Antoine de Privat, ordering regiment of Languedoc.
  • In 1926, it then took to the name of Taschereau in the honor of Louis-Alexandre Taschereau Prime Minister for Quebec. It is into 1929 that Taschereau was divided into two with the creation of the municipality of Taschereau for the countryside and the municipality of the canton of Privat for the village.
  • 1916 : Foundation of the canton of Privat.

  • 1919: The canton of Privat is incorporated in municipality of canton.
  • 1929: The municipality of Taschereau is detached from the canton of Privat.
  • 1980: The village changed name to become the municipality of the Village of Taschereau. Since December 27th, 2001, the territories are amalgamated and bear the name of municipality of Taschereau. The canton of Privat becomes the village of Taschereau.
  • December 27th, 2001: Creation of the new municipality of Taschereau by the fusion of the old municipality and the village of Taschereau.
  • By Taschereau, one reaches the National park of Aiguebelle.
