Geography
History
The commune was called: Tertiniagum in 766. It depended on Rouvroy-the-Blackbirds of 1825 with 1833.The necropolis Gallic of Tartigny was discovered by air prospection at the time of the dryness of June 1976 (Agache 1978, fig. 33) and at the end of the summer 1983 was excavated (Massy and alii 1986, pp. 13-81). It is dated, by the experts, of 25.000 before Jesus-Christ. The excavated part includes/understands four quadrangular trenched enclosures: A first large ditch of 18,70 side m contained in its medium a burial upset by plunderings, with ten vases and a small object out of bronze sheet. A second enclosure, rather slightly trapezoidal is coupled at the west coast of the first. It had in its center a burial with incineration contained in a quadrangular pit of 2,80 m out of 2,95 Mr. Last nine vases with offerings were laid out in north, as well as tweezers found with the foot of another vase. Two small quadrangular ditches of 6,20 side m, not containing a burial, were placed on both sides the first two enclosures. Three burials in pit were studied around the enclosures. They are small burials with incineration which contained also many vases and metal material. Three of the burials were surrounded by four holes of posts, partially discernible on the air photograph. They were to support a built structure which one supposes being of the funerary houses out of wooden. One can think that these shelters, sometimes much more complex, drawn up on the tombs of important characters who become " héros" , are perhaps at the origin of indigenous sanctuaries. Metal furniture is remarkable: the metal iron parts decorate a bucket out of wooden with handle, hooping, hooks and hinges; 3 forces, 6 knives, 2 knife-razor-tweezers, 1 bronze sheet basin, 1 bronze ring, 3 fibules and 1 amber ring. One notes the absence of weapons in the funeral ritual, whereas they are abundant in the sanctuaries of the same area, such as for example with Gournay-on-Swallow. All 5 burial of Tartigny is dated from the average phase of the Gallic period, called of Tène II. The specialists think that the individuals incinerated in the excavated sector would belong to one or with several families of the bellovaque aristocracy. All lets think that, here, with Tartigny , certain rich tombs could be those of druids.
