Tarquin Superb the (Lucius Tarquinius Superbus in Latin) was the seventh and last legendary king of Rome, wire of Tarquin Old the and son-in-law of Servius Tullius.

Last king de Rome is a concentrate of negativity: he will make figure of driving bolt, at the same time moral and political. (Attention however with the " caption noire" , written by Répubicains. The inversion of monarchy benefitted the patricians especially from Rome)

Wire or grandsons of Tarquin Old the, Lucius Tarquinius (the Tyrannical one) and his/her brother Aruns are married with the girls of Servius Tullius, the king thus thinking of guarding itself against the risks of plot whose her predecessor had been victim, Tarquin Old the.

However Tullia, the ambitious wife of Aruns, is not long in misleading her peaceful husband (and with the contempt of his/her own sister) with Lucius, his brother-in-law. This household lasted some time, Tullia communicating its insane ambition with the Tarquin young person, then the two cumbersome husbands disappeared opportunely.

Become free, the two cursed lovers could thus marry each other, in spite of the disapproval of the father/father-in-law. Pushed by his wife, Tarquin then undertakes to make recognize its rights on the throne: he seeks support near the senators, then form an escort of young people with whom he invades the forum. He creates tumult; Servius intervenes. Taken of short, Tarquin ends by the empoigner and throwing it outside where the king is completed by the partisans of the tyrant. Tite-Live tells that, returning to it, Tullia would have rolled on the ensanglanté body of his/her father…

Master of the throne by a crime (-534), it is by violences without end that it claims to be maintained there. He starts by prohibiting that one buries his father-in-law and liquid the senators who had supported Servius Tullius.

Fearing that the example that it had given while seizing the capacity wrongfully does not turn over against him, it was made accompany by an armed guard: it is by a takeover by force indeed that it had acquired the capacity, without passing by the popular votes or the opinion of the Senate. It could not more hope for the love of its subjects and was to count only on terror to sit its authority. To increase its effect, it only informed and without consulting anybody the capital causes; under this pretext, it killed, sent in exile, condemned to the confiscation of the goods the suspects, its enemies or even those of which it did not have anything to wait until the dépouilles.
Ses blows struck especially the Senate: it eliminated much from members and decided that they would not be replaced in order to weaken the order: deprived at its prestige, it would less be indignant not to be more consulted on nothing| Tite-Live, Roman History , Delivers I, 49

It abolishes the Constitution of its predecessor, but completes great work (sewers, etc), reorganizes the army and builds on the Capitole a temple dedicated to Jupiter. Unceasingly in war against the Latin , it eliminates its opponents by the trick (Turnus Herdonius d' Aricie) it triumphs over the Volsques by taking Gabies without blow to férir, thanks to a treason of his/her son, Sextus Tarquin, and Suessa Pométia. The king then makes peace with the Eques and renews the treaty with the Étrusques. Tarquin Kings Etruscan lived In his palate when it have a son. Sextus, as violent as his/her father, becomes in love with Lucrèce, woman of one of her parents, Tarquin Collatin, and the insult. Lucrèce being committed suicide of shame, Tarquin Collatin raises the people with the assistance of his cousin Junius Brutus.

Eutrope will summarize, extremely well this episode:

VIII. - Lucius Tarquin the tyrannical one, the seventh and the last of the kings, overcame Volsques, nation located at little distance from the City, on the road of the Campania. It subjected the city of Gabies and Suessa Pométia, made peace with Tuscan, and built on Capitole a temple with Jupiter. Later, with the head office of Ardée, city located at eighteen miles of the City, it lost the crown. Indeed, his/her son, Tarquin him also, Tarquin the Young person, had violated a woman of the nobility, Lucrèce, the very virtuous wife of Collatin, and this one, after being itself felt sorry for of this insult to her husband, his father and his friends, had committed suicide under their eyes. To avenge it, Brutus, although relative himself of Tarquin, assembled the people and removed the royalty with Tarquin. Soon the army, which under the orders of the king himself besieged the city of Ardée, gave up it also this prince, and when he came to enter the City, he found of them the doors closed and lives itself some excluded. After having exerted the power during twenty-five years, he flees with his wife and his children. Thus saw one in Rome during two hundred forty-three years seven kings following one another, whereas Rome had yet only one hardly extending empire, at most, with the fifteenth milliary one| Eutrope, Shortened Roman History (translation of Maurice Rat)
T The king and his family, driven out Rome took refuge in Etrurie and the République was proclaimed in -509. According to Tite-Live: " Rome was from now on libre". Tarquin the tyrannical one will be assassinated later with Gabies.
